There are some funny things about Virginia. I'm sorry, I meant NORTHERN Virginia, because it's very different from southern Virginia, and the people that live in NoVA want you to know it. To be really "in" here, one must have vanity plates. It really doesn't matter what they say. I thought at first that maybe it was free here to personalize, then I thought maybe it's because there is so much wealth, but I've finally decided that it's actually because the DC area is filled with very type A personalities and a lot of them work for the government. The government LOVES acronyms. I tried to follow a conversation that Jay had with a friend who works for Homeland Security. They were talking about salaries. Apparently the government doesn't like to just say, "we'll pay you this much." They like to say, "you'll start as a G7 and move up to a G8 once you've got your PGB with the QRST." Obviously I'm not using the actual acronyms, which is why I couldn't really follow the conversation. Here is a sampling of plates (appropriately categorized)that I saw and remembered to write down:
Unnecessary but harmless:
TU-KUT
SMACKRL
SWMMOM
(heart)SNOBUN
2TYBEE
WLDPLUM
MAR1NE
RDGRD
Type A Giveaways:
AMASU
ULOV
URDREAM
KARDIVA
BST1WNS
HIZAGN
YRUSOL8
My all-time favorite:
GODBLUS (I'm pretty sure that this person was just visiting from down south, as in Southern Virginia.)
We saw a lot more, many that we could not decipher. I think they were all government employees.

Jayson singing "The World is So Big"
In case you have trouble understanding...
The world is so big and oh, so round
And even God's creations are almost so found.
Brothers and sisters and trees so tall,
animals big and animals small.
The world is so big and oh, so round
And even God's creations are almost so found...
etc, etc.
The correct words are:
The world is so big and oh, so round
And in it God's creations are found.
Mountains and valleys and trees so tall,
Animals big and animals small.
The world is so big and oh, so round
God loves us all, His blessings abound

A Photographer in the Making
Jayson loves taking pictures! He took most of these while we were on vacation in Washington and a few at home. I love that he takes pictures of himself. He then asks me to show them to him and he giggles a little when he sees what terrific shots he's gotten.

Lovin it! I have to tell you a very funny story about a game I played with a whole bunch of very smart people in Boston and it has to do with acronyms. I do know what an acronym is but my brain wasn't working to make sense of the game. Someone had to tell me what it was. Boy, did I feel stupid!?!

You're very observant of the "Northern Virginia" culture. I can't wait to hear more about it! What city do you live in? My cousin just moved there in July near Gainesville.
Hey there!
We are here in the confines of beautiful New Zealand wanting to see what is up in your lives. Any new blog updates???? We are working on one - updated (hee hee) here. I hope you are well!
